Fans of Dick Wolf's One Chicago television shows anxiously await the return of Chicago P.D. Season 9 is coming soon and will continue to follow the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department as they battle crime throughout the famous city. Sadly, fans are currently mourning the death of Markie Post, a regular guest star of the Chicago P.D. cast. Does Post have any scenes in the new season? Here's what we think.

Who is Markie Post on 'Chicago P.D.'?

Markie Post joined the Chicago P.D. cast back in 2014 as Barbara "Bunny" Fletcher, the dysfunctional mom of Erin Lindsay, played by Sophia Bush. Entertainment Weekly notes Bunny and Lindsay remained estranged for most of Lindsay's life. But Bunny reenters to connect with Lindsay after getting herself into a new relationship.

FanSided notes Lindsay spent many seasons of the show attempting to learn more about her biological father. And Bunny even suggested Hank Voight could've been Lindsay's actual father, though Bush assured fans this wasn't the case. Regardless, Bunny spent most of her screen time making trouble and chaos for those closest to her, making her one of the most memorable side characters to ever join the crew.

In the season 4 finale of the show, "Fork in the Road," Bunny and Lindsay faced their biggest ordeal yet. After Bunny's boyfriend gets shot, she's suspected of murder. Ultimately, Bunny is released — but the twist ending reveals she really did kill. This is the last we see of her character.

Is Markie Post on 'Chicago P.D.' Season 9?

So, will Markie Post make an appearance on Chicago P.D. Season 9? While fans would love to see any trace of Bunny in the later seasons, we doubt she'll make any new cameos. Post died on Aug. 7, 2021, due to cancer.

"With great sadness, the family of actress Markie Post tonight shares her passing after a three-year, 10-month battle with cancer," her family said, according to CNN.

The new season of Chicago P.D. is coming soon, and it seems Post continued to work while she had cancer. It's reasonable to suspect she would've continued her role as Bunny despite her diagnosis if the show called for her character. But Bunny hasn't made an appearance on Chicago P.D. since the end of season 4. And now that Bush's character also isn't on the show, we don't expect Post to make any cameo appearances in season 9. Bush left the series due to difficult work conditions.

With that said, Bush still posted a heartfelt message via Twitter in response to Post's death. "I'm just heartbroken at the news of Markie's passing … she was a rock," Bush wrote. "A light. A great friend and a phenomenal scene partner."

Is there a release date for the new season?

While we don't expect Markie Post (or Sophia Bush) to return for Chicago P.D. Season 9, we still look forward to what's to come for the show. NBC reports the new season begins Sept. 22, 2021, at 10 p.m. EST.

As for the Chicago P.D. cast for the new season, Parade notes we'll see plenty of familiar faces. Jason Beghe returns as Hank Voight, Jesse Lee Soffer is back as Jay Halstead, Patrick John Flueger returns as Officer Adam Ruzek, Marina Squerciati comes back as Officer Kim Burgess, LaRoyce Hawkins returns as Officer Kevin Atwater, Amy Morton comes back as Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt, and Tracy Spiridakos returns as Detective Hailey Upton.

To go along with P.D., fans can look forward to Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, both of which premiere on Sept. 22 a well.
